By now, I’m sure you are aware that the FTC has granted yet another extension to the deadline set for companies to get into compliance with the new “Red Flags Rule”. Will there be another? Doubtful.
During outreach efforts last year, the FTC staff learned that some industries and entities within the agency’s jurisdiction were uncertain about their coverage under the Red Flags Rule. The FTC has since published materials to assist those with questions: FTC Guidance . Additionally, the FTC published a website with more resources to help businesses design and implement ID theft prevention programs: Red Flags Rule.
The FTC has delayed enforcement of the new “Red Flags Rule” until August 1, 2009. Keep in mind; this announcement does not affect other federal agencies’ enforcement of the original November 1, 2008 compliance deadline for institutions subject to their oversight.
The FTC is certain to take action after the reprieve.

RIDDLE OF THE WEEK
Which is heavier? A pound of feathers or a pound of gold?

A pound of feathers. Some would say a pound is a pound, but the fact is: Gold is a precious metal and is therefore weighed in the Troy system of measurement. This means that a pound of gold weighs only 12 oz and a pound of feathers weighs 16 oz.
